Ok, here is my 58 from the beginning...literally...
It all started sometime in Feb/March 1958 my Car is sold new at Stateside Motors in Jamestown NY, a few years later, around 1963/64 the VW is given as a Wedding gift to a couple who head to Las Vegas for their Honeymoon, but due to unfortunate circumstances, lost what money they had, and are forced to sell the VW to Sunland Motors (Las Vegas) in order to get cash to fly home. The VW is resold from Sunland Motors to a lady (Ruth) who proceeds to take it back home to Needles Ca, and where it will be registered with it's Black and Yellow plates, and reside for the next 45 years. The Car experiences a fuel line issue, and is parked from 1971-1979. In 1983, the VW is "Bartered" to a local body shop for a paint job on a 73 Lincoln, the new owner (Ken) takes the VW and parks it next to his paint shop for the next 5 years. This owner decides to move, and sells the VW to a old VW mechanic (Bob), who proceeds to park it next to his house, cover it up, and again it will sit, but this time for 20 years. The Car is sold sometime in Feb 2008, as the mechanic (Bob) is in poor health and the 58 needs to go. The VW is purchased by (Carl) with the intent of doing a quick flip? The funny thing is, that not since "Ruth" has the VW been Registered, and the Pink Slip still has her signature? March 4th 2008 My Wife is browsing thru the Las Vegas Craigslist, and sees an ad for a 1958 VW Beetle, I check out the ad, the VW looks clean, tired, but complete. I don't give it much thought, as I am still waiting for my back pay from my last employer and don't want to waste the sellers time? A few days pass, and I look the ad over and feel that the VW must have sold by now, and that the seller just hasn't removed the Ad, so no sense in calling......OK, screw it, my curiosity has gotten the best of me so I call. Yes the VW is still for sale, no it has not been in any wrecks, there is no rot, all the sheet metal is original, as is the 36hp engine, split case trans, and is a factory radio delete, with not only having the original block off plate in place, but never had an antenna installed. OK now I am frothing at the mouth, then the Bomb drops, there is a guy with a trailer heading out from LA to take a look at it this Saturday, and if he likes what he sees, he will buy it!! Now I have gone from I wonder if the 58 is still for sale, to I have to have that VW no matter what! So after telling the owner (Carl) of my intentions of wanting to restore the VW as factory stock, and that it will be a keeper and part of the family, he agrees to sell me the 58! So we agree on a deposit of $500.00 with the balance to be paid in 3 weeks! I have great luck, as the following Monday I get my back pay, and contact the seller that I will be picking the 58 up with in the week. March 16th, I take the Wife and my 2 year old and head off to Golden Valley AZ to pick up my "new" 58 VW

Say Ahhh! Nice faded grey fuel tank, factory Agave paint in trunk, the dreaded hood twist, and the Black & Yellow plates it was assigned after being sold from Sunland Motors in 1963/64.

Minor ding in front and rear fender, so the whole left side was primed?

[/img] Here I am explaining the hazards of closing the hood with the "prop" still locked, the hood has the dreaded rip along the edge.

The seats being torn didn't bother me, but when I found out they were the wrong style, I knew they would have to go.

The VW still sporting it's original Dealer sticker, had it not been for this, I would have never known where this VW came from.

I removed the primer to see what lurked underneath, some minor dings in the fenders, but original none the less.
