That looks like a very nice start! And it's amazing how much it cleaned up from what it looked like as found!

Wow, I would have never guessed that it was the same car judging from the first pic. Shoot, I thought my car had some moss build up on it when I bought it. Actually, I remember seeing that add on the samba a while back. You did a great job, not only getting all that moss off, but getting that crappy white repaint off also, and back down to the original Capri. So, besides getting it running, what are you plans for it? Oh, and when the birth certificate arrives, would you please add your car to our registry. Btw, I love the fuel gauge.

Hey thank's, it was a glorifying moment when the moss & paint started to fall off, and the Capri started showing through. The PO had me list all his stuff for sale on thesamba, but thankfully the 58 (and others) never sold. Which gave me some time to build up some cash & make room for the new addition. My plans are to hammer out some dents, build a 36er, & put it back on the road keeping her as stock as possible. The pan will eventually need some fixing also.

Did you get a history of the 58 from the PO, like where it is originally from, and how long it has sat collecting moss?

Yes actually, thanks for bringing that up agave58. I got the car from the PO's brother who says his brother drove the car from Corvallis, OR in the mid/late 70's (tags expired 77, 10 years before i was born!), and dropped it off because he just bought a new CHEVY truck...... He said they planned on restoring it, but there it sat ever since here it the outskirts of Roseburg, until i finally got my hands on it.

Interesting, the Bug may be from the Pacific Northwest orginally? I remember seeing the ad on the Samba with all the bugs covered in moss, whats the story with the other Bugs, did they find owners too..?

My birth certificate will hopefully clear some things up about it's orig. destination. The 56 oval is now my daily driver & the "micro fiche" was damaged so no BC for it. The custom rag & others are still up there hanging out & lot's of good beetle parts are left. Here is a shot of when the oval & 58 were reunited!
