Well the 36 is almost ready to go back in. If I can work on it uninterrupted tomorrow it should run again. I need to put the clutch back on, the fan shroud and generator, carb and distributor. Everything is painted, and I installed the exhaust and heater boxes today, as well as most of the tin. I think I'll bead blast the fuel pump, which means it needs to be taken apart, but I need to do that anyway, as I'm going to put the stiffer spring in it for the Judson. The carb gets a bigger jet too. Once it runs good, the Judson will go on. I truly believe the engine had never been out of this car until I pulled it about a month ago. If I get it back together and running tomorrow, I'll post pictures of it.

Not good. This thing fought me all day. I've never had a VW fight me like this before. The engine wouldn't go in. I broke the pressure plate trying to get it in. I spent 3 hours trying to get it to go in, Once I broke the pressure plate I went in the house and took a shower. It was so hot and humid today I was soaking wet anyway. After I cooled down and ate some lunch, I went to the barn and found another pressure plate. It's an aftermarket high performance one, so I guess that's better. The one I broke was original to the car, had VW markings. I think I can fix it though. Once I changed the pressure plate, the engine went right in. It's about 20 minutes from running. A big storm came through, so I called it quits. Maybe tomorrow, or maybe not. I've done many engine changes in my VW years, and never had one do this, especially a simple 36 horse. I think it's a Missouri curse. I really hate it here.

I think I'm stuck here. Not sure how I'd ever get out, but if I could, I think I'd try Phoenix, then maybe Austin if Phoenix was to hot. I almost moved to Phoenix about 15 years ago.

Started it up today! It sounds great! I need to order a carb kit, which I did from Wolfsburg West. I should have ordered it before, but I'm trying not to spend a bunch of money. Oh well. It would only idle with the choke pulled out, and didn't want to accelerate from idle. I still need to adjust the voltage regulator to charge the 8 volt battery, I'll do that once I get it running right. No driving it yet.

Today it runs. I rebuilt the carb. The small check ball was stuck. I fixed that. Now it idles great. I played around with a different distributer, but it ran like crap, so I put the stock one back in. I have a few more vintage speed parts to try on it before the Judson goes on. I do know it's low. Looks like I need to blade the driveway to get it out without scrapping. I drove it up the road and back. It sure won't turn very sharp. That's all my fault of course. I"ll see if I can get a video of it tomorrow. Not sure how the weather will be. It was really windy today. I need to do some stuff around the house, and if I can get outside and do it tomorrow, I won't have much time for the VW.
