Never thought I'd sell this Beetle but times are what they are...
I have a beautiful 1958 Euro Ragtop in great condition. Originally delivered to Bad Kreuznach, Germany on Oct. 18th, 1957. Brought to the States sometime in the early 60's. I am the second owner since 1989. The car is 100% functional and would be up for driving across the country tomorrow. See below for the specs:
Body:
OG Deluxe Sunroof in L41 Black sits on the original number matching pan. The pan has had no rust EVER and the body is 99% rust free. Someone at some point removed the jack supports. There is a small amount of rust starting in the rear bumper mount (bumper still mounts securely) and in the rear wheel arch (quarter size). Other than these spots the car is COMPLETELY clean. The ragtop assembly operates smoothly with OG Golde handle. All the glass is original German Sekurit. Original front apron, non-H rear apron. Car is in a L41 Black repaint and is about a 5-foot paint job (though I'm very picky in this area). There is paint cracking on decklid and small section of roof.
Drivetrain:
1600 single port was rebuilt at Painters Grinding in Denver and runs like clockwork. Original split case transaxle shifts perfectly though leaks a little from the nosecone (as many do). All fuel lines replaced with braided rubber lines. New glass fuel filter relocated out of engine compartment. Many new hoses and seals. Heat works GREAT!
Suspension and brakes:
Brake system was rebuilt less than 100 miles ago. New upgraded dual circuit master cylinder with Volvo reservoir. New rubber hoses, fr. wheel cyls., front metal lines.
Front lowered with 2.5" drop spindles, new king pins and king and link bushings. I like the rake on the car and I can take speed bumps at speed. This car is tight and drives very, very nicely. I still have the original spindles if the buyer prefers stock height.
Tires:
New 145's on the front with less than 50 miles. New rear 165's with less than 200 miles. Wheels are OG smoothies with German hubcaps and chrome trim rings. Subtle and classy (IMHO).
Electrical
Still 6 volt. Two month old 6 volt Optima Red Top battery. 100% of the electrical works: Semaphores, lights, horn, etc. I wired in a "stop" signal light from an early 50's ambulance and mounted it to the rear bumper bracket. I wired in four 6-volt relays in order that the OG snowflakes flash and the semaphores are steady.
Interior:
Correct German KmH speedo, unmolested dash, radio blockoff plate. Seats are OG but seat covers are cheap basketweave (good shape but not OG). Door panels are correct but someone spray painted (!!!) the fronts black. I'm currently trying to take the paint off without messing with the vinyl. Mohair headliner in good shape but ragtop section not installed correctly. Ragtop vinyl is shrunken and has small separations at corners. Car will come with your choice of repop wood slat roof rack OR OG VWOA metal roof rack in great shape.
Clear title in my name. Year of Manufacture 1958 Colorado plates can be negotiated if the buyer is local. I've tried to be as thorough with my description as possible. Please email with any further questions or to schedule a time to come drive the car. I can also take any further pics you wish to see. No lowballs on the price as you're getting a great deal for the money. If you choose to pay with Paypal, plan on adding 4% to cover costs.
Like I said in the intro paragraph: I really don't want to sell this car, however I need to find something 4WD to get me to my study sites. I'd consider trade or trade plus cash from your end for the following vehicles: Toyota Tacoma, Nissan Frontier, Jeep Wrangler (1997+), Subaru Outback, Forester or Legacy. Would possible consider others but these are my top choices. Prefer a local trade only as I've had bad experiences with buying/trading vehicles at a distance.
Thanks for looking!
